Poems and letters representing different phases of love make up the texts used on this poignant and exuberant program. The concert begins with Gerald Finzi’s My Spirit Sang All Day, a song that radiates the joy one experiences when first falling in love. Eric Whitacre’s Five Hebrew Love Songs, arranged for chorus and violin, has become a favorite choral work, describing tender moments between the composer and his girlfriend-at-the-time. The renowned e.e. cummings’ poem i carry your heart with me has been set to music by Randall Stroope and arranged for chorus, piano, and violin. The concert also includes works by Libby Larsen, James Syler, and Morten Lauridsen.
