In our 60th season, one piece of music travels with us all year. Woven throughout: Vivaldi's Four Seasons as he wrote them, as climate science imagines them in a changing world, and as children dream they might yet become. Along the way: the beauty of Gabriel Fauré, the glow of the holidays, the hope of Elaine Hagenberg’s Illuminare, and a world premiere by Dominick DiOrio we will take from Arlington to Carnegie Hall. We open our 60th season with music for a beloved and changing world. Excerpts from Vivaldi's Four Seasons are heard side by side with "The [Uncertain] Four Seasons," a recomposition shaped by climate science that imagines our seasons at their most extreme. A movement from Alex Berko's Sacred Place then leads us into Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, perhaps the most consoling requiem ever written, sung this evening for the earth itself.

Our holiday concert has room for every mood of the season. A jubilant Carol of the Bells medley and a Jingle Bells that doesn't take itself too seriously. The prayer for peace of Oseh Shalom. The timeless glow of Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming, White Christmas, and Silent Night. And at the center, Ola Gjeilo's Dreamweaver, music of pure winter wonder. Bring everyone. All are welcome, and all is bright.

The seasons return, changed. Excerpts from Vivaldi's Four Seasons appear alongside The [Uncertain] Four Seasons, a recomposition shaped by climate science that imagines how our seasons may change. Familiar music drifts into unfamiliar weather. Then Elaine Hagenberg's luminous Illuminare carries us out, a five-movement journey from shadow and uncertainty into clarity and peace. An evening for everyone ready for what comes after the dark.
After the Dark

We close our 60th season the only way that fits: by beginning. The evening opens with Who Will Buy? from Oliver! and Bob Chilcott's I Share Creation, celebrating the world we hold in common. Then, the Arlington Chorale’s commission: Dominick DiOrio's Our Future Four Seasons springs from the words of local schoolchildren imagining what the seasons might yet become. Before we perform it at Carnegie Hall in May, it has its hometown moment here. The Arlington Chorale is joined by Vivace Children's Chorus and the George Washington University Singers, three generations of voices on one stage, for an evening that ends our anniversary year the way all good stories end: with a new one starting. Now, we begin.
